MORE THAN 50 THOUSAND PEOPLE VISITED EXPOLIBRO ON THE FAIR´S FIRST WEEKEND

In a true demonstration of public-spiritedness and culture, people from Guayaquil, Ecuador and from all over the world visited the International Book Fair in Ecuador.  They left the fair full of books and satisfaction following the days that were full of expositions, sales, music and theater in EXPOLIBRO 2008’s third edition.
Since last Friday, Guayaquil is the headquarters for this event, in which the most recognized publishing houses in Latin America are represented.

Representation of Mexico as a guest country has been very popular, with more than 11 thousand books that are available for the public.  This is made possible by this nation’s Culture Fund, and offers Ecuador its folklore and customs through musical presentations and documentary films.

On Saturday, the cast of Ecuavisa was able to bring together four thousand visitors in the Fair’s Central Square to see the play “The Little Price,” an adaptation by the well-known director Hugo Avilés.  It was highly acclaimed by those who attended.  Up until today, there have been presentations and releases of more than 50 books, publications and literary collections.

The first Story Telling event took place today.  The National Library System and the Leonidas Ortega Foundation organized this event, which attracted more than five thousand children.  Here, they had access to varied activities like children’s games based on traditional stories and story telling events.  The children also got together in the square to see the play “The Poet and the Silversmith,” an adaptation of the literary work The Silversmith and me.  Maria Fernanda Heredia, well-known children’s book author from the Alfaguara publishing house, brought the event to a close.  Her unique and carefree way of talking to children and adolescents brought smiles to their faces and reflections during this magical moment.

Expolibro’s goal of attracting more than 300 thousand visitors and 25 thousand children is slowly being attained, thanks to the schools, universities and the media who advertised this event.  The organization extends its gratitude for this stimulus.

Entrance to the fair will continue to be free until Sunday, July 13.  It has a rich and varied daily program that includes activities for the whole family.
