Opening of the most important cultural event in the country

THE OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF EXPOLIBRO 2008

Last Wednesday, in the City Room of the City of Guayaquil, the third edition of the INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR IN ECUADOR was presented.  Here, the first meeting of the Organizing Committee and the presentation of proposals and financial expectations for the Fair’s 2008 edition took place.

The event, which will be held this year from July 4 to 13 in the Crystal Palace at Malecón 2008, seeks to once again bring together national and international literary figures.  The Fair will also consolidate the best novelties of the written genre as well as work so that its 10 days are a celebration of culture that includes poetry, theater, dance and music in just one place.

During the Committee meeting, it was mentioned that there must be economical support in order to carry out the best quality fair possible.  They determined unanimously that entrance would be free to children, young people and adults, since this is one of the most important national events in terms of encouraging reading and culture.

Diverse organizing entities agreed to seek out resources as well as logistical and technical support so that EXPOLIBRO can be well recognized on the international level.

In this presentation, the official video of EXPOLIBRO 2008 was shown. The Committee also determined the need to continue working together with the IEPI to protect intellectual property of both national and international written work.  This will be done through the book fair, as well as through a continued effort to hold workshops that increase awareness of this problem in children, young people and adults.
Invitations to international writers have already been made, and we are awaiting the mass result from national writers who have already requested space in the country’s most significant literary appointment so they can release their new books.

The program of conferences and seminars will also be a highlight for more than 260 thousand visitors, the entrance record ratified in 2007.  In the new 2008 edition, the fair hopes to surpass this number by focusing on the children and the young people who attend.
