BOOKS ARE A CELEBRATION

Expolibro opens a window to the world on July 4 in Guayaquil, Ecuador

More than 190 activities will start next Friday, when the 2008 International Book Fair in Ecuador’s third edition starts at the Crystal Palace on Malecón 2000.

The main dish for this fair will be release of new books, theater, music, talks about literature, chats, contests, tributes and showings of documentaries, as well as the first STORY TELLING event for more than 25 thousand children from Guayaquil’s public and private schools.  EXPOLIBRO will take in the general public from Guayaquil, as well as national and international visitors who have been planning on attending this event for the past few months so as to obtain the best prices and the latest news on the literary scene at its more than 200 exposition and sales stands.

As a guest country, Mexico will have a more than 40 square-meter sample from the Literary Fund and will represent more than 40 of the nation’s publishing houses in a colorful display of culture.  This stand’s feature will be the arrival of more than 5 well-known Mexican authors, including Eraclio Zepeda, the poet Jesús Flores Olague and the writer Cecilia Urbina.

A sample documentary with more than 12 showings about Mexican art, architecture and culture will be presented in the Mexico Junto al Rio Cinematheque.  It is an initiative of the Mexican Consulate and is considered to be a tribute to the most important figures in this fields.

There are other important international novelties, such as the presence of publishing houses from Colombia, Spain, Cuba and Venezuela, and the highly anticipated arrival five Colombian authors, including Fernando Soto Aparicio, as well as the Argentine authors Marcelo Figueras and Andrés Neuman, or Spanish writers Monserrat del Amo and Eva Rey.  This last author’s book “A Beginner’s Seduction Manual” hit record sales in Colombia.

The fair’s organizing committee expects that this year, the fair will surpass the 260 thousand visitors that came in 2007, in such a way that this year both public interest and the quality of the activities offered will be improved.
